The 24-year-old Pakistan’s scoring machine Babar Azam became the fastest player to reach 1,000, beating the previous record set by Indian captain Virat Kohli who reached 1,000 runs in 27 Twenty20 innings. Babar Azam achieved the milestone in just 26 innings while playing third T20 against New Zealand at Dubai on Sunday.
Babar Azam ranked number one in T20s, score 79 in 58 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes as Pakistan whitewashed New Zealand 3-0 with a comfortable 47-run win in the third match. The right-handed batsman registered his eighth fifty in Twenty20 cricket in the shortest format on Sunday.
Babar Azam’s rise has also matched Pakistan’s elevation to the world number one ranking in Twenty20 internationals since making his debut against England at Old Trafford in 2016, when Sarfraz Ahmed took charge as captain.
